maiden run (plural maiden runs)

  1. (rail transport, of a locomotive, train, etc.) Its first trip in service, in some cases after a rebuild.

      On February 17, 1956, the first one, No. 35018, left Eastleigh on its maiden run with a Bournemouth stopping train.
