  1. (rail transport, UK) A wagon attached to a rail-mounted crane to support the jib when the crane is being hauled in a train.
    • 1960 July, “Talking of Trains: New breakdown cranes”, in Trains Illustrated, page 392:
      Match wagons are provided to support the jib when the crane is travelling in train formation between locations and roller bearing axleboxes enable speeds of up to 60 m.p.h. to be maintained.
