Possibly a denominative verb, from Proto-Albanian *bruta, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrewh₁- (to boil up, ferment) (cf. Latin ferveō (to boil (up), bubble), Thracian *brutos (beer, a type of barley beer)) or Proto-Indo-European *bʰrews- (to swell)(cf. Latin frustum, Old English brēost (English English breast).
