Etymology[edit]

Either inherited from rare Arabic مَبْغَضة (mabḡaḍa, an object or cause of hatred) or otherwise an independent formation from bagħad with the same measure. The underlying form is *mibgħda, where -e- was inserted to break up the inadmissible consonant cluster.
