  1. (rare) That which is incorrectly written or transcribed; a typo
    • 1908, Supplement to Court Leet Records, volume 1:
      The spellings in ī represent Old French ē2, and if they are not miswrits show merely the tendency to exaggerate the ē beginning of the diphthong ei which was the beginning of that sound.
    • 2012, Eiríkr Magnússon, Thómas Saga Erkibyskups: A Life of Archbishop Thomas Becket in Icelandic:
      [] which seems more likely to be a thoughtless scribal repetition of the preceding var, than a miswrit for vart, varla or varlega scarcely.
