Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Lombard mondeghin (plural mondeghitt), a variant of mondeghili, from Spanish albondiguillo or albondiguito, diminutive form of albóndiga (meatball), from Arabic البُنْدُقة (al-bunduqa, literally the hazelnut), possibly through Catalan mondonguilla.
