Etymology[edit]

Cognate with Kabiyé naʋ, Moore naafo, Dagbani nahu, Mbelime nààfɛ̀, Tem náwʊ, Farefare naafɔ, Mampruli naafu, Moba naab, Ntcham unaa. All from an underlying root *nag-, possibly from a theoretical Proto-Atlantic root, cognate with Fula nagge, Serer naak, and from a Proto-Niger-Congo root cognate with Proto-Bantu *ngòmbè.
