- Rodríguez-González et al. studied the effect of a silver shell on the plasmonic behavior of gold nanodumbbell cores, describing a complex plasmonic scenario where the transversal mode of the core–shell system cannot be directly related to an equivalent silver nanorod. 45 To the best of our knowledge, the only available study of the plasmonic properties of silver–gold–silver nanorods is the work by Ahn et al. using dark-field spectroscopy, which indicated no influence of the gold core. 35 The most important prerequisites for a precise engineering of the plasmonic properties of noble metal nanoparticles are monodispersity and size tunability.
