Etymology[edit]
A word coined in the second half of the 19th century by Matīss Kaudzīte, from ne- (“not”) + skanis (“vowel”). By the end of the 19th century, it had been replaced by līdzskanis, a word coined by A. Kronvalds in the 1860s.[1]
