From Dutch orkest, from French orchestre, from Latin orchēstra, from Ancient Greek ὀρχήστρα (orkhḗstra), from ὀρχοῦμαι (orkhoûmai, “to dance”) (an intensification of ἔρχομαι (érkhomai, “to go, come”), from Proto-Indo-European *ergh- (“to set in motion, stir up, raise”)) + suffix *-tra denoting "place".
