orphan off (third-person singular simple present orphans off, present participle orphaning off, simple past and past participle orphaned off)

  1. (transitive) To treat (a child) as an orphan, such as by sending them into foster care or adopting them out.
  2. (transitive, computing) To remove all links to (something), leaving it an orphan; to render a technical item (website, function, etc.) useless by removing references that call on it.
