Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Bahnaric *ptam (to plant), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *t₂am ~ *t₂əm ~ *t₂əəm. Cognate with Proto-Palaungic *cɤ/am (to plant) (whence Riang [Sak] pᵊsɤm¹), Khmu [Cuang] psɨm, Old Mon ptaṁ (to plant). Compare Baha tam⁴⁵ ("to plant").
