Etymology[edit]

From pan- +‎ diwa. Coined by grammarian Lope K. Santos in 1940 in the Balarila ng Wikang Pambansa (Grammar of the National Language). Previously, a calque of Spanish sustantivo (noun) in Mamerto Paglinawan's Balarilang Tagalog (Tagalog Grammar).
