   • 1887, Journal of the Royal Microscopical Society, volume 7, page 542:

     The bodies that were only salted and dried remain less perfect, the features being destroyed, the hair removed, while the skin is hard and parchmenty. The Egyptian modes of embalming were copied by the Jews, Greeks, and Romans.
