plåga + -sam. Attested since 1712. Compare Danish plagsom. See also English plaguesome.

- causing or associated with moderately severe or worse suffering (usually physical pain); painful, agonizing, (in the agonizing sense) excruciating

Usage notes[edit]
More painful-sounding compared to "painful" by default, but not necessarily (though sometimes) of excruciating pain.
