Irish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Anglo-Norman flur (compare Scottish Gaelic flùr), from Old French flor, from Latin flōs, flōris, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₃- (“flower, blossom”), from *bʰel- (“to bloom”). The initial p- comes from a reinterpretation of initial f- as ph-, the lenition of p-.
