English[edit]

Noun[edit]

posterior malleolus (plural posterior malleoli)

  1. (anatomy) The distal posterior aspect of the tibia at the ankle.
    Synonym: (colloquially) posterior mal

Usage notes[edit]

This is a misnomer, since it is not a true malleolus (bony prominence on each side of the ankle). Also implied in the term trimalleolar.
