From Ancient Greek προσθετικός (prosthetikós, adding; repletive; giving additional power), from πρόσθεσις (prósthesis, addition), from προστίθημι (prostíthēmi, I add), from πρός (prós, towards) + τίθημι (títhēmi, I place).
