Etymology[edit]

An adaptation of the Ancient Greek ψιθύρισμα (psithúrisma) or ψιθυρισμός (psithurismós), from ψιθυρίζω (psithurízō, I whisper), from ψίθυρος (psíthuros, whispering, slanderous).
