English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From public +‎ -ally.

Pronunciation[edit]

Same as publicly.

Adverb[edit]

publically (comparative more publically, superlative most publically)

  1. Rare spelling of publicly.
    • U.S. International Trade Commission, Remediation and Nature and Landscape Protection Services
Several of the publically-available offers include changes affecting the classification of the definition of the environmental services covered by their commitments.

Usage notes[edit]

This spelling is omitted from many dictionaries, but is present in Merriam-Webster and Collins. The suffix -ally is normally used in this context (added onto words that end in -ic), but public is an exception, and publicly is generally considered more correct.
