Etymology[edit]

quill +‎ -er

Noun[edit]

quiller (plural quillers)

  1. One who works with a quill.
    • 1911 July 15, The Manila Express, page 3, column 3:
This is very much more becoming to the majority of women than any white linen or muslin, and it is quite a pretty bit of fancy work to run the edging on a long but narrow piece of silk, then pleat it up, and when it is soiled, remove the stitches so that it can be washed and ironed out quite straight, and then quilled up afresh. Professional quillers always work at the top with the lace, edge held downwards.
  2. One who writes with a quill; a professional writer; a journalist.
    • 1905 February 25, The Worker, page 1, column 4:
Make a start in Sydney — Hugh Macdonald, Holman, Hughes would surely need little pressure to assist — and you needn't fear the cordial co-operation of the country quillers!
  3. One who creates decorative designs from thin strips of curled paper.
    • 1999, Malinda Johnston, Paper quilling: beautiful paper filigree to make in a weekend, page 6:
Some quillers make small wooden stands resembling trees, with horizontal "branches" over which they hang the strips.
