French[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Latin redigere.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ʁe.di.ʒe/
  • (file)

Verb[edit]

rédiger

  1. (transitive) to review and correct for mistakes in content, layout and style
  2. (transitive) to compose

Conjugation[edit]

This is a regular -er verb, but the stem is written rédige- before endings that begin with -a- or -o- (to indicate that the -g- is a "soft" /ʒ/ and not a "hard" /ɡ/). This spelling-change occurs in all verbs in -ger, such as neiger and manger.

Descendants[edit]

  • German: redigieren
