Probably from Old French randon, from randir (to run, gallop) (whence French randonnée (long walk, hike)), from Frankish *rant, *rand (run, noun), from Proto-Germanic *randijō, from *rinnaną (run, verb), from Proto-Indo-European *(H)r ̊-nw- (to flow, move, run). See run.
