record deal (plural record deals)

  1. An agreement between a record label and a musician or music group, by which the musician or group agrees to record a certain number of songs to be published by the label.
    • 2011, Nikki Van Noy, So Much to Say: Dave Matthews Band—20 Years on the Road, page 55:
      On the heels of the Remember Two Things release, the band signed its first record deal with RCA, inking the contract just five hours after that midnight release.
