Etymology[edit]
Probably from Vulgar Latin *boreārius, derived from Latin boreās (“north wind”), from Ancient Greek Βορέᾱς (Boréās). Reshaped by influence from rovo (“thorn”), because of the cold wind being perceived as stinging.
