run ahead (third-person singular simple present runs ahead, present participle running ahead, simple past ran ahead, past participle run ahead)

  1. (of a train) To use sidings to pass a different train.
  2. To proceed beyond peers or beyond some limit.
    The culture has run ahead of what people are comfortable with.
  3. (software, transitive) To execute (code) in advance, anticipating a likely upcoming need for the result.
