From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *siŋ ~ sik (tree, wood). Cognate with Burmese သစ် (sac, wood, tree(in compounds)), Tibetan ཤིང (shing, tree, wood), Old Chinese (OC *siŋ, “wood”), Tangut 𗝠 (*sji¹, wood, tree), Nuosu (syr, tree, wood). Compare with Lhao Vo sag' , Zaiwa sik, and Longchuan Achang ʂək⁵⁵.
