From schamen (“to be ashamed”) + soort (“species”).

schaamsoort f or m (plural schaamsoorten, diminutive schaamsoortje n)
- A species of bird a birdwatcher is ashamed to not yet have spotted, generally due to it being relatively common.
- De blauwborst is mijn schaamsoort, ik kan hem maar niet vinden.
- The bluethroat is my shame-species, I just can't find him.
