English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From show +‎ -er. The hyphenated spelling serves to distinguish from shower (precipitation) and related senses, which are pronounced differently and are etymologically unrelated.

Noun[edit]

show-er (plural show-ers)

  1. Nonstandard form of shower (man whose penis appears relatively large when flaccid).
    • 1994, jenster, “Penis Size and other Eternal Questions”, in seattle.general[1] (Usenet):
"Growers" are guys whose penises tend to contract a lot lengthwise when flaccid, while "show-ers" are guys whose penises could be said to merely "deflate" without contracting much in length.
    • 2006, Mike Zimmerman, “Members only: 15 things you don't know about your penis”, in Men's Health[2], volume 21, number 6:
One kind expands and lengthens when becoming erect (a grower). The other appears big most of the time, but doesn't get much bigger after achieving erection (a show-er).
    • 2011, K.M. Soehnlein, Robin and Ruby[3]:
"I'm a grower. You're a show-er," Robin says, looking downward, comparing himself to George with a self-conscious pang.
