[edit]Uncertain. Theories include that it is an alteration of stuck with the sch- sound found in many Yiddish words such as schmaltz or schmuck,[1] or that it derives from Yiddish שטיק (shtik) or German Stück (“piece”), as in Stück Dreck (“piece of dirt”) or שטיק דרעק (shtik drek, “piece of shit”).
