Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish صحبت (sohbet), from Arabic صُحْبَة (ṣuḥba, “accompaniment, friendship”). Cognate with Azerbaijani söhbət, Turkmen söhbet, Kazakh сұхбат (sūxbat), etc.
