Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *sok- (to pierce, stick into), which was homonyms to and possibly cognate with Proto-Turkic *sok- (to hit, beat, crush).[1] Compare Karakhanid سُقْماق (suqmāq), Turkish sokmak (to insert), etc.

soxmaq

  1. (transitive) to stick in, push in, insert forcefully
    Synonyms: salmaq, sancmaq, batırmaq
    Lazım olmayan yerə burnunu soxma!
    Don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong!
  2. (ditransitive) to thrust into, to plunge into
    bıçağı ürəyinə soxdus/he plunged a knife into his/her heart
  3. (intransitive, colloquial, slightly vulgar) to stab [+dative]
    Adama soxarlar!One can get himself stabbed [for doing or saying something]
