    • 2004, Newsweek, volume 143, page iii:
Spam in e-mail isn't new. But as barriers to it have succeeded, spimmers have taken fresh aim at IM.
    • 2004, Larry Long, Personal Computing Demystified, page 225:
Most forecasters are predicting that spim will spin out of control as soon as spimmers find a way to abscond with large numbers of IM screen names, which are not as readily available as e-mail addresses.
    • 2007, Bill Daley, Computers Are Your Future, page 70:
Another threat to the use of IM is a phenomenon known as spimming. Spimming is to IM as spam is to e-mail. Some aggressive spimmers learned how to take over one IMer's contact list — threatening a company's entire IM system!
    • 2012, Natarajan Meghanathan, Nabendu Chaki, Dhinaharan Nagamalai, Advances in Computer Science and Information Technology:
Spimmers clog mobile devices by sending tones[sic] of unwanted SMS or MMS and hence making the devices useless.
