stabbing board (plural stabbing boards)

  1. (oil industry) A temporary platform erected in a derrick on which a derrickhand stands to run in casing.

      The derrickman releases the "stabbing board", a pivoting plank like a diving board, then walks out to the very end and, wearing a safety harness called a "belly buster", leans out at a horrific angle to make sure the pipe is lined up straight.
