Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From stră- +‎ bate, or less likely from a Vulgar Latin *extrabattere, from Latin battuere. However, the latter does not explain the conservation of intervocalic B, which would be dropped in regular conditions. Compare Aromanian strãbat, strãbatiri.

Verb[edit]

a străbate (third-person singular present străbate, past participle străbătut) 3rd conj.

  1. to pass through go through or over, penetrate, traverse
  2. to roam all over the place, wander around, ramble
