Etymology[edit]
From Malay sundal, from Javanese ꦱꦸꦤ꧀ꦢꦼꦭ꧀ (sundel, “prostitute”), from Old Javanese sundĕl (“prostitute”), caṇḍāla (“wicked”), from Sanskrit चाण्डाल (cāṇḍāla, “outcast”). Doublet of cendala and jendala.
