Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طرمالامق (tırmalamak), from Proto-Turkic *tïrŋa-k (finger-nail, claw). Equivalent to tırnak (fingernail, claw) +‎ -la (forms verbs from nouns) +‎ -mak (infinitive suffix).
