Vietnamese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 進攻 with the Southern reading of the first character. This compound can also be read as tiến công, with the Northern reading of the first character, although the meaning shifted to "to advance, to march forward" under the influence of tiến.
