From Middle Welsh tauarn, from Proto-Brythonic *taβern, from Latin taberna.

Noun[edit]
tafarn m or f (plural tafarnau or tefyrn)
Usage notes[edit]
In the South tafarn is usually treated as a masculine noun, therefore y tafarn mawr (“the large pub”). In the North, however, it is generally treated as feminine, therefore y dafarn fawr (“the large pub”).
