  1. Any rule that prescribes or proscribes behavior during a ten-second interval, especially:
    1. (basketball) The rule that a team must advance the ball over the center line within ten seconds of gaining possession. The 10-second interval is used in U.S. high school and college basketball; professional leagues use an 8-second limit.
