Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish ترقیات, from Arabic تَرَقِّيَات (taraqqiyāt), plural of تَرَقٍّ (taraqqin), verbal noun of تَرَقَّى (taraqqā, to progress). Terakki comes from the singular.
