throatplate (plural throatplates)
- A plate forming the lower front of the outer firebox of a locomotive boiler, below the barrel.

- The loco had been withdrawn from service in 1996, when cracks had been found in the throatplates of its boiler, and its power bogies had been overhauled and placed under Earl of Merioneth.
