tone +‎ -lag

tonelag

  1. toneme

Usage notes[edit]

Norwegian (and Swedish) has two tonemes named tonem 1 (in Nynorsk einstavingstonelag or enkelt tonelag) and tonem 2 (in Nynorsk tostavingstonelag or dobbelt tonelag). Tonem 1 has a descending pitch (example: landet and bønder) and tonem 2 has an ascending pitch (example: lande and bønner. Note! Both examples are limited to dialects where the d is silent).
