Etymology[edit]

Literally, thousand (mark) banknote. Originally referred to a specific skit in the comedy television series Kummeli in which a cashier gives incorrect change for a 1000-mark note and refuses all attempts to resolve the matter, instead staring with a blank expression on his face.
