Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Germanic *duganą, whence also Old Saxon dugan, Old English dugan, Old Norse duga and Gothic 𐌳𐌿𐌲𐌰𐌽 (dugan). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewgʰ- (“to produce, to give milk”).[1][2]
