From Proto-Central Philippine *tuŋtuŋ (“stand-on; layer-over”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *tuŋtuŋ (peak, top). Compare Bikol Central tungtong, Cebuano tungtong, and Balinese tungtung. Doublet of tuktok.
