From tuss (Subterranean) +‎ bit (bite). Literally, a bite of the Subterraneans.

  1. (folklore) a damage from an unvisible bite of a mythical Subterranean wight. Can occure when walking on top of a Subterranean house, or if drinking water from a river at night time. May have parallels in other cultures under other names.
