- Illumination from underneath.
- 1981, Burne Hogarth, Dynamic Light and Shade, page 43:
- But there are some minor underlights beneath the high arm and on the left of the face; these are reflected lights that bounce off nearby parts of the figure itself.
- A highlight in an underlayer of a person's hair.
