underrank (third-person singular simple present underranks, present participle underranking, simple past and past participle underranked)

  1. (transitive) To rank lower than.
    In the military, a private underranks a colonel.
  2. (transitive) To ascribe too low a rank to.
    Embarrassingly, I underranked the colonel by addressing him as "private".
