Etymology[edit]
From Middle High German ân gevœre, mostly Middle High German ân gevœrde (“without evil intention, without deceit”). Equivalent to ohne (“without”) + Gefahr (“threat, danger, peril”).[1]
Cognate with Dutch ongeveer.
